Centaurea scabiosa - Greater Knapweed

Centaurea scabiosa - Greater Knapweed

10 open pollinated seeds from our gardens for $4.00.

To say I adore this plant would be an understatement.  Who can resist large shaggy purple flowers?

Centaurea scabiosa thrives in most soil types provided there is good drainage.  It loves a sunny position and thrives on neglect.  Being a native perennial of Britain, it is perfect for cottage and meadow gardens.  It grows to around 1m in height, flowering during summer.  These flowers will bring the beneficial insects to your garden.

Seeds are sown in either spring or autumn.  You can sow direct or in pots and transfer when the plants have reached a height of approx. 10m and frosts have finished.
