  • Cypress Vine (White) - Ipomoea quamoclit

10 open pollinated seeds from our gardens for $4.00.

The Cypress vine is a fast growing annual with lacy fern like foliage. The 2.5 cm flowers are a bright pristine white and last to the early afternoon, when they will close up. Flowers only last a day, but once it starts flowering, it will rarely be without a bloom. It will bloom up to 3-4 months. If you don’t want it to set seed, Just pinch off the old flowers every couple of days.

A trellis or structure is important, as this vine literally gallops along and can easily reach 2.5 metres in height. It will also happily climb through other plants.

Set out your seed in Spring (or after the danger of frost is gone) by soaking in warm water for 24 hours. Sow into moist potting mix about 3 to 4cm deep and place in area with bright light.  Germination occurs in 10 to 15 days. Transplant when the plant has at least two sets of leaves. Alternatively, if the soil has warmed, you can plant straight into the garden.

When the vine is young, water well for it to establish. It can be fertilised with a balanced fertiliser. The Cypress vine prefers full sun, is tolerant of drought once it is established but it will not do well in boggy soil.
