Eschscholzia californica - Candy Mix
Approx 300 seeds open pollinated seeds from our gardens for $4.00.
The prettiest Californian poppies you will ever grow! Cheerful mix of yellow, pink and coral pink flowers; ideal for direct sowing in drifts. Eschscholzia are one of the easiest and most colourful annuals to grow, they bloom profusely over a very long season, succeed in all soils and garden positions and are heat and drought-resistant. Grow en masse to make a breath-taking sight in massed plantings or containers. The flowers are extremely attractive to bees and butterflies; and will bloom continuously from mid-summer until frosts.
Please note poppies do not like being transplanted so it is best to sow the seeds directly where you want them to grow. For warmer regions, place seeds in the fridge for 6 weeks before sowing.
Due to their short vase life of around 3 days, poppies aren't noramally used for cut flowers. However, if you do want to use them harvest the flowers when they are just opened. Flowers will close over night but will open the next day. Place in cool water and leave over night.
Please note poppies do not like being transplanted so it is best to sow the seeds directly where you want them to grow. Seeds are scattered during spring and autumn. The seeds need light to germinate, so just give them a light press into the soil and water in. These plants will grow about 30cm high and are drought and frost tolerant. They are the perfect plant for a compact display. They will self sow if allowed.
