Japanese Blood Grass - Imperata cylindrica
Bare rooted plant.
Japanese blood grass (Imperata cylindrica) is a perennial plant. Its foliage begins green with slightly tinged red tips and matures to the blood red colour. The plants grows to around 60cm in height and is a clump plant. Grow in full sun for the plant to develop the red coloured foliage. If grown in the shade it will revert back to green foliage. Grow in moist soil but not wet as it will rot. Ideal for boarders and large pots.
The best way to use this plant in the garden is as a feature. Grow plants like hostas and ferns to contrast with the red foliage. Black modo grass and other grasses also work well with this plant. The flowers of perennial sedums look stunning with it as well.
