Nigella orientalis ‘Transformer’
Approx 90 open pollinated seeds from our gardens for $4.00.
Nigella orientalis ‘Transformer’ also commonly known as Yellow Fennel Flower, Love-in-a-Mist is an interesting little flower with its fine ferny foliage. It is a hardy annual which is suitable for cut flowers or for that added bit of interest to the garden. Dressed in lime green and yellow, this flower does not go unnoticed.
This plant prefers full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. Sowing times are:
Tropical: Late Summer to Early Winter.
Temperate: Late Summer to Mid-Autumn or Spring
Cool Temperate: Mid-Summer to Mid-Autumn or Spring
Sow the seeds either straight into the garden or alternatively into 10cm deep pots. Nigella Transformer does not like being transplanted, so a pot with plenty of depth along with some extra care at planting out time, should avoid the sulks.
Cover with a light sprinkling of soil, about ½ to 1cm in depth and lightly press down. Water well and keep moist but not water logged. Germination can take between 14-28 days.
Space the plants about 30cm apart. Plants grow to approx 30-45cm in height. Water well when the plant is young, to establish a deep root system.
