Peppermint Scented Geranium - Pelargonium tomentosum

Peppermint Scented Geranium - Pelargonium tomentosum

A strong peppermint scented pelargonium with green felted leaves and masses of dainty white flowers in spring. Large, open habit.  Plant in almost any well drained spot in the garden and does well in poor dry soils and exposed positions. Plant near paths for pleasant fragrance.  However, it must be protected from cold winters and frost.  For this reason I grow mine in pots and move them to a protected area in winter.

Both the leaves and flowers can used in cooking. Line the bottom of cake tins to infuse batter with peppermint flavour.  Bake and then peel the leaves off before serving. A peppermint-flavoured tea is infused from the fresh leaves.

Foliage is used in floral arrangments and will last up to 7 days.
