Phygelius aequalis 'Pink Puff' - Cape Fuchsia
20 open pollinated seeds from our gardens for $4.00.
Phygelius aequalis 'Pink Puff' is an easy care drought tolerant plant with attractive form, flowers are long, thin apricot pink tubes that are arranged thickly along upright stems. It has a long blooming season from early summer until the first frost. Plants can grow as tall as 1.2m and are classed as a shrubby, evergreen perennial. Plants prefer a sunny or lightly shaded position and will tolerate most soil types that are well drained. It is easy to maintain just requiring the spent flowers removed in winter. Every few years the plant can be cut almost to the ground and fresh growth will appear in spring. This will keep it looking young and fresh for many years. 'Pink Puff' fits in well as a background to low growing shrubs and perennials. Mine grows amongst my roses, penstemons and fairy fishings rods. Phygelius aequalis 'Pink Puff' is both drought and frost hardy. My plants are located in the warmer area of my garden and protected from heavy frosts.
Phygelius aequalis 'Pink Puff' makes an excellent cut flower.
To obtain best germination seeds need temperatures of +22C. Since the seeds are so small I would sow them in a pot and transplant but you can direct sow your seeds. Sprinkle seeds over well-drained potting mix and gently cover with a fine layer of potting mix. Water and keep damp not wet. Transplant seedlings into the garden with they are around 10cm in height.
