Scabiosa caucasica Blue - Caucasian Pincushion Flower

Scabiosa caucasica Blue - Caucasian Pincushion Flower

10 open pollinated seeds from our gardens for $4.00.

Scabiosa caucasica - blue flowers. is a delightful compact perennial. It features large flowers, up to 8cm across that have been a cut-flower staple for over a century. These flowers are produced endlessly throughout the warmer months. Along with its lacy mid green foliage it makes an excellent ground cover. Perfect for cottage, meadow and cut flower gardens. Easy to grow, low water requirements and totally frost hardy - 45cm x 60cm.

I direct sowed my seeds in autumn. However, if you wish to grow yours in pots, sow shallowly in trays filled with good, moist but freely draining compost. Seeds need light to germinate. Keep the tray well watered but not wet, place in a warm, semi-shaded spot and keep temperatures around 20°C until they have germinated. When large enough to handle, pot on into small pots and grow on at cooler temperatures. Gradually harden off before planting outside at 50cm intervals.

Excellent cut flower.
